ABOUT ME

Houston, Tx, United States
Hi. Welcome to my site; my name is Karen. I'm an avid scrap-booker, card-maker, and paper-crafter. I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years and I am just as excited now as when I first started. Scrapbooking is the instrument I use to record some of the greatest and most special moments of my family’s life. I love buying patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, taking pictures of my son, teaching scrapbooking and hosting workshops. This hobby continues to be an obsession for me and it continues to challenge me to be a better scrapper. I love the escape that scrapbooking affords me and the fun it has brought into my world. I have one child, a son; he's 15 years old and he is my favorite scrapbook subject. I hope that you enjoyed my site and will visit again soon.

Another Mother's Day Pink and Green

I liked this pattern paper so much, I had to make two cards, different style of course.

Mother's Day is Coming

I wanted to get an early start on my Mother's Day cards so I spent the day playing with some of my new papers and old embellishments. This card showcases two of my favorite colors; pink and greens.

Masculne Birthday

I am always challenged when I have to make a mature masculine birthday card. They're hard for me because I love adding flowers and ribbon to my cards. For this card, I thought of a color scheme, where I could add both of my favorite embellishments and still keep the masculine look to this card.

Happy Birthday

Summer is on it's way and I wanted to get a headstart on my summer birthday cards. I also used this card for a class I taught. I feel in love with the pattern paper the minute I was it in the store. I immediately starting thinking about ribbon and flowers I could use to embellish these papers. I like the final outcome.

Pearl Elegance

Sympathy cards are always the hardest cards for me. A friend of mine had a death in her family and I wanted to create a beautiful, elegant, very simple card to share my condolences.

Blact Tie Affair

I love black and white paper, as I guess you can tell by some of the other cards on my site. Well, I found this wonderful new black and white paper from Heidi Swapp at my local scrapbook store, and I had to buy a few sheets. I wanted to create a "springy" classy card and I think this turned out perfect. Of course I had to add my favorite embellishment: flowers.

Spring Time Birthday

Spring is finally here and what a great time to bring out the bright, bold colors. I found this bright orange ribbon at Michael's and had to have it. I got home and thought, what am I going to do with this, hmmm, I'll make a card and this is what I came up with. Isn't it just perfect for spring? I sure hope that my friend will enjoy it and as much as I enjoyed playing with my big, orange ribbon.

Challenge # 7

This challenge was really a challenge; we were asked to incorporate a clipboard into the layout. Now I have altered clipboards to hang on the wall, but never added one to a layout. I spent the first week stumped, then the second week trying to decide which photo to place on the clipboard and the last week, trying to make sure I completed the challenge by the due date. Well, I did it and I like the way the layout turned out. I hope that you will enjoy.

Church Fan Anyone

Growing up in the baptist church, you always see ladies with pretty hats, lacy handkerchiefs, beautiful shawls and eye-catching church fans. I think the fans are more for looking at and less for keeping you cool. I had some pink and black pattern paper left, I liked it so much I thought, I have to make something else, so I made a "church" fan. I'll have to test it out on Sunday, stay tuned...

Mother's Day

Ooh, pink and black for Mother's Day, how girly. Mother's Day is around the corner, so I thought I'd start playing early with some of the new paper I bought a couple of weeks ago. I know I said I wouldn't buy any pattern paper this year, but who can resist all the new colors and patterns; I can't.

U Rock

Another lunchbox card for my son. I think that my son ROCKS and I thought I'd tell him so. What better way to do that, than to put it on a card.

"K"

Simply stated, "K"; my initial and name to some. I've been holding on to this letter K for a while, trying to decide what to do with. Low and behold, I've gotten into painting, especially Lumiere paints. I put the two together, plus some pattern paper, added a little bling and what do you know, an altered K. Isn't it fabulous.

Happy Birthday To You

What's more fun than making a birthcard for a special friend. I have always loved sending birthday cards and now I can make them and send then; and I'm having a great time. I made this card for one of my girlfriends to help her celebrate her birthday. You know how much I love flowers and I just couldn't resist using my new Cuttlebug embossing folder to create the look of seeds on the flower center. I hope that Kim enjoyed the card, because I certainly enjoyed making it for her.

You Are In My Heart

I found out about a friend, who's very ill, and wanted to do something to lift her spirits. I know for me, I love going to the mailbox and being surprised by a card from a loved one or friend, so I thought she'd like the same.

Remember always, that you don't have to do big things to let people know you're thinking about them, sometimes it's the small things that mean the most.

Celebrating CKC

My girlfriend, Velma, and I attended the Creating Keepsake Convention this year. We had a GREAT time, we took some AWESOME classes and did some shopping at the venor's fair. I wanted to do something to commemorate that event and I'd kept all of the tickets and armbans, not sure why, but they came in handy for the layout.

Airplanes

I know this is not a card or a layout, but I guess it could be considered a paper crafting project. My son had to submit a futuristic model plan as a part of a science project. He came up with the draft and I told him that he could use my supplies. Well, I didn't consider the fact that he'd want to make such an elaborate model, but I think he enjoyed putting it together. I was going to help him, but we didn't exactly see eye-to-eye on what needed to be done, so I took a backseat and just passed the supplies when he asked.

He was very pleased and proud, so was I. I think he did a fantastic job.

1st Birthday

My nephew, Jeremiah, is turning 1. Where did the time go? I remember the day he was born, we all rushed up to the hospital to see him. He was so tiny and now, just one year later, he has touched my heart and won me over with his beautiful bright eyes and a dazzling, 4-teeth smile.

Enjoy

My Superstar

I enjoyed making lunchbox cards for my son, I think it brightens his day at school. Though he's 11 now, he still likes finding little surprises in his lunchbox. He'll usually come home and say something like "I found the card you made for me, it was pretty cool. Thanks mom." Hearing him say that melts my heart because I know in a couple of years, I won't be very "cool".

Enjoy

Dream Maker

This challenge was a bit interesting because we were asked to create a project around one of our favorite songs from the 1970's; well my favorite song back that many years ago was Dream Maker by Rick James. Once I read the challenge guidelins, I knew immediately which song I'd use and I just needed to get a picture of my son, while asleep. This layout was a perfect way to commemorate a conversation Josh and I had about 2 weeks ago. He was sharing a dream he'd had with me, the dream was regarding his life as an adult. It was a very detailed dream and he was so serious when relaying this to me and mapping out his life for the future.

Enjoy

Birthday Scallops

Well, I'm back to my monthly birthday card making. I was interrupted for a bit by the water damage to my scrapbook room, caused by the broken water heater. Now it's time to play catch up, got a lot of work to do. My girlfriend is really into scallops and well, I think it's rubbed off on me, so here's a birthday card with scallops. I love green and brown together and ribbons and flowers are always in order.

Decorated Clipboard

I bought a small clipboard, some pretty paper and my favorite, ribbon. Here's what I came up with.

My Space

I have a new scrapbook room, which I absolutely love, and I thought I would make a pretty plaque to hang on the wall. Just looking at my plaque, makes me enjoy my space all the more. Isn't it pretty?

Challenge #5

Challenge #5 was truly a challenge. For this project we were required to use at least 2 different patterned papers, a Teddy Bear from the Doodlecharm cartridge, flowers, ribbon and buttons. I decided I would do a 2 page layout of my little nephew. He got a walker for Christmas and he is ready to hit the road (floor).

More Scallops

My girlfriend sent me a scalloped file from her Cricut Design Studio and this is what I came up with. Scallops just add something to any creation; don't you think?

Happy Anniversary

I've been playing with my new Cricut Design Studio software. I wanted to do a card with scallops, one of my favorites things, at the moment. I bought this patterned paper for a class I was teaching and I just love it, so I bought some extra. It's a simple kind of elegance.

Hideous Paper

Have you ever walked in to a scrapbook store, saw some patterned paper that you really like, purchased the paper, then got home and thought, "what on earth made me buy this paper"? Well, that's what I thought of this paper, until I started playing with it one night. After playing with it for a while, I realized how much I liked it and starting thinking of things to create. Here's what I came up with and I think I really like it.

Valentine's with Flowers

Say it with flowers; pink flowers on top of brown and blue.

Criss Cross Valentine

I absolutely love black and white and I thought it would be fun to use those colors for Valentine's Day. I threw in some magenta for a splash of colors and I think it turned out beautiful.

Valentine - Black & Grey

Valentine's Day is on it's way and what better way to say Happy Valentine's Day, then with a romantic card.

Romantic Challenge

Challenge #4 was to create a 5 x 7 romantic card. I was stumped for most of the challenge period, but as I was looking through a stack of pattern paper, I came across this paper I'd been wanting to use. Each time I picked the paper up, nothing came to mind, but I kept picking it up. Well, this time something came to mind and I like the way it turned out. I wanted to add ribbon, one of my scrapbooking favorites, but I also wanted to keep it simple.

Happy New Year

This is my 3rd challenge card. Carol issued this challenge; to do a 9.25 x 4 New Year's card and I have to tell you, it was really a challenge. I don't generally do this size card, but once I got started, I really enjoyed it. I hope that you'll enjoy it also.

Thanks for Pushing Me

While working on my challenge card, I took a couple of breaks to play with my new papers and flowers, so here's what I came up with. I really like the continuous felt flowers, FUN.

Christmas Card Challenge

My girlfriend Velma issued a Christmas card challenge, based on a card scetch and here is what I came up with. I took a few liberties with the scetch, but I think that's the whole point. I am so enjoying these challenges.

Pink & Black Criss Cross

I was an overachiever for the challenge, so I made two cards. Here is the second card.

Autumn Criss Cross

I participated in a Criss Cross challenge with some of my girlfriends. It was really a lot of fun and I always enjoy the challenge. Here is one of the card that I came up with.
