ABOUT ME

Houston, Tx, United States
Hi. Welcome to my site; my name is Karen. I'm an avid scrap-booker, card-maker, and paper-crafter. I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years and I am just as excited now as when I first started. Scrapbooking is the instrument I use to record some of the greatest and most special moments of my family’s life. I love buying patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, taking pictures of my son, teaching scrapbooking and hosting workshops. This hobby continues to be an obsession for me and it continues to challenge me to be a better scrapper. I love the escape that scrapbooking affords me and the fun it has brought into my world. I have one child, a son; he's 15 years old and he is my favorite scrapbook subject. I hope that you enjoyed my site and will visit again soon.

Cards for Class tomorrow

Here are the cards we'll be making in class tomorrow. I hope the ladies enjoy the cards as much as I enjoyed making them. I think we're going to have a great time.
Enjoy!!

Mother' Day Weekend Class

I am teaching a class in the morning. What a way to start my Mother's Day Weekend, then doing something that I really enjoy. I think I'm just as excited as the ladies are. I just hope that they don't look at my blog today, because I don't know about them, but I still like those oh-uh moments when I go to a scrapping class. We're also going to make some cards; I'll post those in a separate post. It has been a busy week and on top of this, I had Mother's Day cards to make. I got the 5 I needed to mail in the mail this morning; I know, cutting it close. That's generally not my style, but what can I say.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the layouts.

My Dad's Birthday

My dad's birthday is tomorrow and I usually struggle with masculine birthday cards, but this time it came very easy for me. I'm certain it had something to do with this beautiful pattern paper I found. I hope my dad is okay with the flowers on it; he's a real man's man.

April birthdays

April and May are full of family and friends birthdays, so in addition to planning for classes, I was whipping out lots of birthday cards. Talk about having a great time and burning the midnight oil; a late night Dr. Pepper and some Pepperidge Farm cookies helped to keep me going; though some days I felt like I was walking around in a daze, but I would do it all again, in a heartbeat. Here are a few of them:

Happy Birthday

Mr. Al, the owner of the Kolache shop in the neighborhood is always so nice and friendly when we go into the shop. He makes sure to put a couple of my son's favorite kolache's back when they start to get low. Joshua and I wanted to help celebrate his birthday, so we decided that I would make him a cheerful card. I hope Mr. Al enjoyed his card.

Sincere Sympathy

Sympathy cards are never easy for me, but I always like for them to be very nice, soothing and comforting to the recipient. I will hold on to this and hope I don't have to send it anytime soon.

Many Thanks

Just a note to say thank you and what beautiful colors to say it in. Summer is definitely on the horizon, so I thought I'd get an early start with the summer colors. It's amazing what you can do with pretty paper and the right Cuttlebug folder.
Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Anniversary

I wanted to create an anniversary that would be pleasing to both male and female alike. The colors are masculine, but I think the butterfly gives it that soft look. I just love these crocheted butterflies, and then I remembered that I had some Tattered Angels spray that I'd been dying to use. I think the colors and the butterfly compliment each other well.
TFL, Good night

Thinking of You

I know it's been a while since I've posted anything, but it's been really busy lately, I was preparing for a card class at By Design Scrapbook last week and I'm preparing for a scrapbooking class I'll be teaching next weekend. I will try to play catch up tonight. Here's the first card: a bright and sunny "thinking of you".
Enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

You Did It - CardPatterns Sketch

My godchild, who is very special to me, had a big academic accomplishment and I wanted to make a very special card to commemorate the event. Wow, I can't believe that she's already in 10th grade. Seems like it was just yesterday that she was wearing adorable little dresses, with matching hair bows and now she's in high school. She has grown into a beautiful, smart and talented young lady and such a girlie girl. I hope that she will enjoy this card, created using the CardPattern sketch for this week; great sketch.

Retro Birthday Card

I found this great retro paper and instantly, I thought about making a funky card. I like it the way it turned out.

A Saturday of Scrapping

I have been looking so forward to a day of scrapbooking and I finally had it today. I have been holding on to pictures of my son, that needed scrapping, so that's where I started, I was cold and raining outside and just a perfect day to be inside all day and in my scrap room. I popped some popcorn, had a few candy bars and got busy.
What a wonderful day.

Here he is on locker day, we went to school to set up his new locker and I thought he looked so handsome. I just happened to have my camera on hand, so I snapped a couple of shots. I was careful not to let his friends see; didn't want to embarrass him.
Isn't this just one of the best looking football players you've ever seen? I cerainly think so.

Homecoming 2008. FUN, FUN, FUN...

Our Texas history project, and yes, I said our. My assignment was to design a cover for the project. Of course, I was given all of the specifics...talk about a micro manager.

On a Roll - 2S4U

It's been a crazy week, certainly glad it's Friday. I didn't get a chance to play with my paper and tools all week. My new border punches came in the mail on Wednesday, so I used one of them on the first card . I needed to get a couple of birthday cards done; it worked out great that there were two sketches this week. I decided to jump on in and take on both of them. Both of the sketches were great; I'll certainly be using them again.
Thanks for stopping by.

Card Pattern - Challenge #5 God Loves You

This was such a fun sketch, I had a great time with this card. I wanted to make a card for a girlfriend, who was a little down this week, and remind her that she is loved. We all get a little down every once in a while and it's nice to know that there's someone who's thinking about you.
Thanks for stopping by.

Card Pattern - Challenge #4

What a great sketch Card Patterns has for this week; so much fun. I wanted to do something other than a card, so I created this 5x7 scrapping journal. The papers are so bright, vibrant and fun to work with and the journal is functional. I will be using it to keep track of my cropping projects.

Sketch 21 - 2S4U

I got an early start this week. When I saw this sketch yesterday, an idea came to me immediatly, so I started on it right then; sometimes I suffer from "forgetism" and I didn't want that to happen. I like the way it turned out and I hope that you enjoy it.

Fun Times

I enjoyed doing the layout last week so much, I thought I'd do a second page to finish it out. I will be teaching both of these pages at By Design this month. I think the class participants will enjoy both layouts. It's so funny, once I start doing layouts again, that's all I want to do, so I am busy printing pictures that I want to scrap. Hey, I've got to do something to use all of the beautiful paper I keep buying. LOL

CardPatterns Challenge

My girlfriend found a new Card challenge site for us to participate in and here is my card for that challenge. This has been a great week because I needed to get some cards and layouts done for the scrapbook store, where I'm a design team member and I was successful; so I've been busy and not had a lot of sleep.

Let's Try It Again - 2S4U

Sometimes I think we are our own worst critics, as with the card I posted before this one. I love the card, but the posting didn't do it justice, so I thought I'd re-create, with different paper. What do you know... I like the way this one turned out also.

Love comforted - 2S4U challenge

Am I on a role or what?, week no. 8 of 2S4U challenges. I bought this beautiful paper this week and this photo does not do it justice; it's textured, fabric like and has a nice gloss to it. I found a stamp in my stash that I'd been wanting to us, so I thought this card was the perfect opportunity.

Brrr...Cold

Last night I decided to do a layout featuring guess who? ME. The thought was much easier than doing the layout. The problem was finding a picture of me. I realized that I am always behind the camera and rarely in front of it. Once I found a picture, I had a blast. You know... I think I'll do other layouts featuring me.

Priceless

Priceless is how I feel about my son. What a joy he is in my life. I know, I know he's almost 13, but so far I'm seeing very little "teenage" attitude. I guess I had better cherish each moment, up until that time comes and I understand that it is surely coming.
Enjoying the moments.

Beautiful Flowers - 2S4Y #20

I saw the 2S4U sketch for this week and immediately loved it. I knew I had to participate and use one of the swirl stamps that I bought recently. I thought I was over stamping, until all of the beautiful swirls became popular again. Glad I held on to some of the old stamps. I was in my LSS store the other day and saw these incredible ribbons with bold flowers and you guessed it...had to have it.
Thanks for stopping by to take a look; come back soon.

Card Making Marathon

Well, let me first say that I have been having a great time; I had a card making marathon. Each night I played until about 2:00. I was tired the next morning, but what's a lack of sleep, when I can get a few hours of uninterrupted scrapping time. I got cards done that for February and March birthdays, and one encouragement.

Sweet and Cherished

Because I love doing "girly" layouts, I sometimes have to borrow pictures of other people's daughters. This is one such case; I was scrapbooking some photos for an album and in the pictures was a great picture of their daughter. I thought the layout was just perfect, so I asked if I could post it. I had so much fun playing with the beautiful papers and flowers. Somehow, I don't think my son would have been pleased to see his picture on a layout like this, lol.

Valentine - 2S4Y for Feb. 9th

I wanted to make a special Valentine's card for the special person in my life, my wonderful son, and when I saw the 2S4U sketch for this week, I knew I wanted to use it for my special card. There's lots of texture on this card because I used the CuttleBug hearts and swiss dots embossing folders. I also added foam dots in between layers, so that the card would POP.
Once again, I had a great time playing along with 2S4U this week.
