ABOUT ME

Houston, Tx, United States
Hi. Welcome to my site; my name is Karen. I'm an avid scrap-booker, card-maker, and paper-crafter. I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years and I am just as excited now as when I first started. Scrapbooking is the instrument I use to record some of the greatest and most special moments of my family’s life. I love buying patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, taking pictures of my son, teaching scrapbooking and hosting workshops. This hobby continues to be an obsession for me and it continues to challenge me to be a better scrapper. I love the escape that scrapbooking affords me and the fun it has brought into my world. I have one child, a son; he's 15 years old and he is my favorite scrapbook subject. I hope that you enjoyed my site and will visit again soon.

Happy 13th

I printed this picture of me and my son a couple of months ago, it's from his 13th birthday, but never used it. I was trying to decide which picture to scrapbook today and pick it up, again. This time, it was the pecfect picture for the layout I had in mind. I always have so much fun with layouts, but with making card most of the time, the layouts sort of get put on the back burner. Well, I'm in a layout mood, so you all should be seeing many more.

Brother, I miss you

I have a brother in Iraq, a twin brother to be exact, and boy do I miss him. Though we talk several times a week, there's nothing like having him at home. The other night, after I finished talking with him, I was missing him so much, I decided to make him a card and mail it the next day. He'll enjoy the card, though he won't admit it. I hope it brightens his day, the same way hearing his voice brightens mine.

A Thanksgiving Thank You

One of my girlfriends, Nancy, makes the best yeast rolls and her special punch. Each year at Thanksgiving, she sends my family a pan or two of the wonderful rolls. We generally start eating them in the morning, as we're preparing Thanksgiving dinner. We tried to save some of the dinner, but it's not easy. I wanted her to know just how much we appreciate her act of kindness and labor of love, so I do what I do as a labor of love, I created a card. I hope it touches her heart, the way her gift touched our hearts.

Running late for a birthday

I was late making this birthday card, but got it down and in the mail the day after the big day. Sorry. Sometimes I get stuck on a certain paper or papers, thus the case with these papers. I used them for a layout and just loved them, so I wanted to use them again on a special card. This card is for one of the ladies that teach my Sunday School class. I hope that she enjoyed it and had a wonderful birthday.

Black Friday

I didn't get out today to do any shopping, but I certainly enjoyed my Black Friday. I baked Chocolate Chip and Walnut cookies and scrapped the day away. What an awesome day. The layout below captures pictures from Thanksgiving yesterday with family. I'm sure as you scroll down, you'll see that I really liked the pattern paper in the layout, because I also used it on a couple of cards. There was no waste there.
Enjoy and TFSB.

World of Possibilities

Here's a card I made for my new niece, from her Papa. We finally have a baby girl in the family and she is beautiful. Ya know what that means; I will get the chance to scrapbook little girl pages, full of flowers, butterflies, lace and all the shades of pink that I love. Ooooh, I can't wait.

November 20, 2009

I know it's been a while since I've posted, I've been busy filling orders for cards, working on a scrapbook project for a friend's daughter, painting and decorating letters for my new niece's bedroom and working on projects for the November LeBistro kits. My projects are posted below. I'm glad to be back on the blog and hoping to get lots of scrapbooking time over the Thanksgiving holiday because I have lots of new pictures to scrap.

I have some new toys: Nestabilities. I couldn't wait for them to be delivered. There's a funny story that goes with this, I'll have to tell you some time.

Another girl's night out, celebrating a birthday and a job promotion with good food and lots of laughter.

Homecoming week at my son's school. This will probably be the last school year he'll let me come on campus and into the building with a camera. That's okay, I'll just get a zoom lens; got to get those photos.

One of my favorite pictures of my son. He certainly does have the key to my heart. Alcohol inks is one of my new favorite things. I used a few different browns and gold to color the paper mache heart.

10-24-09 Card making class

I taught another fun card making class this past Saturday. We made fall and Christmas cards. There was lots of catching up, laughter, fun and creativity flowing in the room. I thought I'd share some pictures from the class with you. Enjoy What is Sylvia looking for? Could it be the bows that we couldn't find?

Is she hard at work, or what? No time for talking, gotta get those cards made.

Lois had a day of scrapping; this was her second class of the day.

Georgia let Sylvia in on a little surprise and I caught her with her mouth open; smile for the world-wide web.

The incredible mother-daughter duo. Christina, thanks for hanging in there with us. I hope your dance instructor was understanding.

Another mother-daughter duo. Card making is fun for all ages.

How about that embossing? Looks pretty serious from here.

Taking some time out to catch up.

A Busy Bee

There are so many wonderful, new and fun products available; I've been playing with as many of them as I can. Last week I purchased a couple of Smoochs, a few bottles of Tattered Angels, lots of chipboard flowers and ink pads. I've been using them for layouts, cards and altered projects. I'm glad you all can't see my eyes; if you could see them, you'd think I haven't slept in days. To be honest, I haven't. But, who needs sleep, when there are so many fun products out there, waiting to be played with. Here are a few of the things I've been working on. As always TFSB. The pull-out card from the pocket has a birthday sentiment on it. The chipboard flowers and kraft paper envelope were painted with Tattered Angels.

I found this cute tin can at Archiver's and just had to alter it.

Did I mention I also ordered some stamps from Verve Stamps? Love them.

It's never to early to start thinking of Christmas

Fall is here and I made a couple of fun layouts for Sunday Night Layouts at By Design Scrapbook Boutique.

Girls night out with my mother and sister. Don't you just love the Prima flowers?

MyVerve stamps are getting plenty of use.

I was playing with the new Ranger embossing powder.

Gratitude

Gratitude. That word expresses one of the emotions I feel when I see my son and my dad together. They have such a wonderful relationship. I have been trying to scrap this photo of them from Father's Day weekend 2008, for a while, but I just wasn't feeling it, until I saw this transparency that read Gratitude. Because the transparency has a fall theme, I thought I'd build the layout around it. The big flower is a chipboard flower that I misted with Tattered Angels, then painted the edges with one of the new Smooch paints. I also painted the edges of the leaves. Gotta say that I love this new paint.

2009 Children's Cluster

The new fall papers are in and they are FABULOUS. The papers and rub-ons are from Vintage Poppy. Here's my first fall layout of the year. I have to let you in on a little secret; though the theme of the layout is fall, the pictures are actually from last spring. I love this picture of my son, with his friends and thought it would be perfect for the layout. I think it worked fine; we just won't tell anyone it's from the spring.

Cards, Cards, Cards

I haven't posted anything in over a week, not because I haven't been making cards; I've been busy doing just that, and doing layouts to teach at the store and for the monthly kit club. I'm also making cards for a card class I'll be teaching October 24th, at By Design. I'll share some of what I've been working on. Enjoy and as always, TFSB

Serving up slices of Lemon Meringue

We're serving up Lemon Meringue this month at Le Bistro Rose Kit Club. The layouts, card and painted wooden frame are my contributions to the meal. We are given a kit, filled with great papers, cardstock, ribbon and embellishments, and asked to work exclusively from that. We are able to add paints and a few other items. Talk about challenging your creativity, but at the end of the day, I can say that I had a great time. Head on over to the Bistro to see the kit and other great creative dishes: http://www.lebistrorosescrapbookkits.typepad.com/

A Day to Remember

I participated as one of the designers for yesterday's Sunday Night Layouts (SNL) at By Design Scrapbook Boutique. Here's my layout. I wanted to make the layout as bright and fun as that beautiful summer day was. The green, blue and orange combination helped to achieve that objective.

Our Summer

So much fun; that's all I can say. Yesterday, while I was in Michael's, with a coupon of course, I saw this paper mache book. I thought about the Lumiere paints, distressing inks, distressed Stickles and Tattered Angels glimmer mist I had at home, and the crackle paint I could purchase at By Design Scrapbook Boutique and WALLAHHHHH, here's what I came up with. I'm going to store paraphenalia and extra pictures from our vacation inside the book.

Football #37

This is my son's last year in middle school and I'm sure the last year that he'll let me make stuff to put on his school locker. I'm going to take advantage of it too. He's playing football again this year, #37, so I cut this football and will be adding magnet strips to the back of it, to hang on his locker door. I cut the football from the Sports Mania Cricut cartridge, layered it then covered it with Mod Podge to perserve it. He was actually pretty excited when he saw it; I was excited that he was excited. I told you, I'm going to take advantage of this year.

Same Papers

Sometimes, I can't get enough of certain patterned papers; such was the case with the papers below. I had a few cards to make last week, for different ocassions. I used the papers on the first card and thought, "hmmm, I really like this paper"; so as you can see, I used it each time.
