ABOUT ME

Houston, Tx, United States
Hi. Welcome to my site; my name is Karen. I'm an avid scrap-booker, card-maker, and paper-crafter. I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years and I am just as excited now as when I first started. Scrapbooking is the instrument I use to record some of the greatest and most special moments of my family’s life. I love buying patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, taking pictures of my son, teaching scrapbooking and hosting workshops. This hobby continues to be an obsession for me and it continues to challenge me to be a better scrapper. I love the escape that scrapbooking affords me and the fun it has brought into my world. I have one child, a son; he's 15 years old and he is my favorite scrapbook subject. I hope that you enjoyed my site and will visit again soon.

My 1st Cricut Imagine Project

My Cricut Imagine was delivered on Wednesday and I am just playing with it for the first time tonight; I'm lovin it. I've still got a lot to learn, but just the fact that this whole card started out as a white sheet of cardstock is amazing to me. I wanted to stop and post my first Imagine creation, now back to more playing.

My Star Player

Here's my handsome star player.

Girlfriend's Birthday Celebration

Time for another birthday celebration, and it's a big one; Vee turns 45. She is the youngest one in the bunch...scary, hmmm 45 and the youngest. Age is just a number in my book. I'm embracing every new year that the Lord allows me.

Anyway, here are some cards I made for her birthday celebration.

Enjoy and TFSB,

Little Duckie

I'm getting back on the challenge wagon and started with the Cricut Cardsz challenge. The challenge this week is to make a baby card, using the colors green, orange, yellow and white, along with any Cricut cartridge. I used the New Arrival's cartridge to cut my little duckie and added a little bling for the eye.

40th Anniversary

Some very special friends recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, with family and friends aboard a Paddle boat on Clear Lake. I needed to make a card for the happy couple and because the boat ride was a "Go Black" affair, I thought a black and white card would be appropriate.

Happy Birthday

I know I've said it before, but this is "really" my year to scrap from my stash. I have been holding on to this sheet of pattern papers for months now; mainly because I like the print so much, but I decided it was time to pull it out and use it. I need to make a card for one of my girlfriends and thought this the perfect time to use it. The sentiment is stamped in grey, so I thought I'd carry that color on to the flower by using some Grey/Silver Smooch.

1st 6X12 layout

I think I'm going to enjoy making 6x12 layouts; they quick and easy. Best of all, I was able to create this layout using scraps left over from another project. I just whipped out those Martha Stewart border punches, Prima flowers, some Tulle, a little bling of course and presto, a layout completed in 15 minutes.
Enjoy and TFSB,

Bahama Mama

Here are a few vacation layouts. They were made using the new Lost and Found line from My Mind's Eye: love it, love it. Though, the glitter was everywhere by the time I finished the layouts. I cut the palm trees with the SYI Cricut cartridge, then sprayed them with glimmer mist. I also used glimmer mist for the plan colored flowers on the bottom layout.

Twin Birthdays

I had to make a couple of cards last weekend for my son to take to a pool party. A couple of his friends, twins, a girl and a boy were turning 13. I was stomped on the card for the boy when my son told me to cut a football and basketball with my Cricut. What a great idea; it gave me an opportunity to use the Sports Mania cartridge I purchased last summer. What can I say, it was on sale and I got a good deal, right?

Just Me

I very seldom do a layout of just me, but here goes. My girlfriend took some pictures of my son and me, while at a gala. I liked the way the pictures turned out, so I decided I scrap the picture of my by myself. I also scrapped the others, but wanted to share this one. I have to tell you that I enjoyed the purple and green color combination because generally, purple is a color that I stay away from; hmmm, don't like it at all. What can I say, I'm branching out.

Giggle, Giggle, Giggle

I have a wonderful Godchild, who's heading into her Sr. year of high school. She's such a "girly" girl and I enjoy making cards to send to her. So while I should have been asleep, but wasn't, I decided to make her a card at 6:15 in the morning: go figure. Turns out I had a good time and the house was quiet. I'll have to plan for more early morning scrapping.

A Quick Birthday Card

I needed to make a quick birthday card, that didn't look like a quick card, so I scraplifted an idea from one of my favorite blogs, Stop and Stamp The Roses. I wanted to make the design my own, so I added additional ribbon and pearl bling: oh-la-la.

Layouts for July Kit Club

I wanted to share the items I designed using the July kit, Tiramisu, from LeBistro Rose Scrapbooking Kit Club. I wasn't so sure about this kit at first glance; I drew a blank, but once I pulled all the supplies out, spread it on my workstation, the ideas started coming to mind. I wanted to do some painting, so I picked up a paper mache' mailbox at Hobby Lobby and painted it using Tim Holtz' alcohol inks: fun, fun, fun. Then, I wanted to do a couple of layouts, so I grabbed a couple of pictures from last summer's vacation and got busy.

I needed to make a quick birthday card, so I duplicate something that I'd done already; made a few alterations and voila!

Embossing Circle

Isn't this G.C.D. paper wonderful? I certainly think it is; I've been looking at it for a while, trying to decide what to do with it. Well, here's what I did. What do you think?

Scoring - Birthday

After talking with my girlfriend several months ago, she made me realize "I needed a scoring pad", so I printed an online coupon, we jumped in the car, drove 50 miles to Archiver's to purchase a Scor-Pal and used it twice. Then about 2 months ago she tells me how "we need the new Martha Stewart Scoring Board, so again, I printed an online coupon, jumped in the car, drove to the nearest Michael's to purchase the Scoring Board and have finally used it. I must say, that I absolutely love this tool.

Summer Layouts

Well I have finally scrapped some pictures from last summer's vacation in Cancun. I printed the pictures months ago and put them to the side, but I needed to get some layouts done. I used one of the Bo-Bunny summer lines and lots of bright flowers.

Clear Acrylic and paper

You can't see it on this photo, but the top layer of the card is a piece of clear acrylic, attached to the pink floral piece. The bling and flower are actually attached to the piece of acrylic, not the pattern paper. This is the last card for the card class I taught over the weekend at By Design Scrapbook Boutique. I think I'll pick up some more acrylic to play around a little more; really like it.
