ABOUT ME

Houston, Tx, United States
Hi. Welcome to my site; my name is Karen. I'm an avid scrap-booker, card-maker, and paper-crafter. I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years and I am just as excited now as when I first started. Scrapbooking is the instrument I use to record some of the greatest and most special moments of my family’s life. I love buying patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, taking pictures of my son, teaching scrapbooking and hosting workshops. This hobby continues to be an obsession for me and it continues to challenge me to be a better scrapper. I love the escape that scrapbooking affords me and the fun it has brought into my world. I have one child, a son; he's 15 years old and he is my favorite scrapbook subject. I hope that you enjoyed my site and will visit again soon.

Praying for You

I was pleased with the way this card turned out, but it was a challenge to make; sympathy cards always are. I hope that this card will touch the heart of the church member receiving it and it will in some small way help to ease the pain of their lost.

Karen

2S4Y Challenge #46

Here's my take on last weeks 2 Sketches 4 You challenge. This was a great sketch; it took me a little while to decide what to do and what papers to use, but once I got started, the ideas kept coming. These are my two favorite colors; I really like the way the card turned out.
Enjoy and TFSB,

The Sweet Shop Challenge - SSS43

I had very agressive plans last week and decided that I would participate in multiple challenges. Well, I completed some of the challenges, but didn't get a chance to upload and post them, so I'm doing that this week. This was such a cute challenge and I enjoyed making this card.

Delight Yourself - Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge - SSSC57

The second time's a charm. I missed the deadline to post last week's card for challenge #56, but I was not going to miss it this week. What a great sketch this week and I had the perfect paper to play along. I wanted to keep the colors consistent, but use different patterns, so I used thess great papers from My Mind's Eye Lush collection. I pulled some flowers from my stash and reached for one of my Verve stamps. I love the result.
Enjoy and TFSB,

Not my favorite cards to make - Sympathy Card

Sometimes you have to make cards that you don't want to make; I feel that way about making sympathy cards. However, last week I did have to make a few. I try not to think about the sadness of the ocassion, but try to make a card that will be soothing or calming to the person receiving it. I generally struggle with the colors for these cards, so black and white are my safe colors.

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge - SSSC55

A new challenge for me, the Sweet Sunday Challenge at the Sweet Shop. This week's sketch is really cute and just in time for me to play with my new "Our Daily Bread" stamps and to use some of the bling that I've been buying in quantity, lately. I'm really using my scraps, this card was made from scraps left-over from a 2-page layout. I'm loving it.
Enjoy and TFSB,

Monday Mojo Challenge #6

I'm back on track and working on my challenges early this week; burning the mid-night oil. I used these papers to make a layout and really liked the colors, so I thought I'd also use them for a card. This was a really fun sketch; I enjoyed playing along.
Enjoy and TFSB,

Simple Scrapbooking I

I will be teaching a "Simple Scrapbooking" class each month, over at www.ByDesignScrapbookBoutique.com. Each month, we will do a 2-page simple layout. The first three class dates are February 20th, March 27th and April 17th. If you're in the Clear Lake area, I'd love to have you in the class. Anyhoo, the layouts for the first class are below. I really like green and orange together; makes me think of spring. While we're getting all of this cold wet weather, I needed to feel like spring is on its way; this layout made me feel that way.

Hang 10 JT

I had a good time putting this layout together and not just because it features my favorite scrapbook module; my son. I had a chance to play with my Tim Holtz Distressing Ink pads to color the chipboard leters. I used another of his ink pads to distressed the small flower, after I colored it with Glimmer Mist. I have to tell you, I really like the skateboard in this picture because it's an indoors skateboard, so less chance for us to visit the emergency room; again.

Adorable

Just adorable. When my sister-in-law sent this picture of my nephew, I couldn't wait to scrap it. The timing was perfect because we've set up a Designer's Fun Box at By Design Scrapbook Boutiqe, and we have been challenged to reach into the box and pull things out, put them together to create layouts and return to them store within a couple of days. Both this layout and the one below it are from that Fun Box, and it's really fun creating the layouts.

Lil' Kelvin

I love scrapbooking baby pictures, so I'll be showcasing a couple of layouts with pictures of my 7 month old nephew. I haven't met him yet becuase they live in Thailand, but I get lots of pictures. Take a peak below to see the handsome little fellow.

Monday Mojo Challenge #5

I wanted to share this card for the Monday Mojo #5 Challenge. I didn't make this card, but my 13 year old godchild did. She came over Friday night to do some scrapbooking with me and I showed her the Monday Mojo sketch; she decided to play along. Below is her version of the challenge. I think she did an awesome job; I love her color choices. She's only be scrapbooking for a short while, but she has an eye for color and detail.
