ABOUT ME

Houston, Tx, United States
Hi. Welcome to my site; my name is Karen. I'm an avid scrap-booker, card-maker, and paper-crafter. I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years and I am just as excited now as when I first started. Scrapbooking is the instrument I use to record some of the greatest and most special moments of my family’s life. I love buying patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, taking pictures of my son, teaching scrapbooking and hosting workshops. This hobby continues to be an obsession for me and it continues to challenge me to be a better scrapper. I love the escape that scrapbooking affords me and the fun it has brought into my world. I have one child, a son; he's 15 years old and he is my favorite scrapbook subject. I hope that you enjoyed my site and will visit again soon.

The Little Princess

What a great time I had working on this layout. In addition to using my Cricut to cut the crown from the Rock Princess, I painted it with the Pearl paint dabber from Adirondack. I also cut the "Diva" sentiment from that same cartridge and added some bling. It helped having great "girlie" pictures to work with.

Go Eagles

I whipped out the Locker Talk cartridge from Cricut, to cut the megaphones and layer them, and of course used one of my Martha Stewart border punches to trim multiple borders, to create a layout to help cheer on those little league Eagles. I keep my punches close by whenever I'm scrapping because they're what I reach for every time. Flowers, of course!!!

More Graduation

Enjoying the graduation pictures so much and it's that time of year again, so thought I'd design another "grad" layout. I had to work some pink (my absolute favorite color) in the layout.

Just Me

What a darling little girl. One great picture and an opportunity to create a layout with all my favorites, Cricut Mini Monograms cartridge, ribbon, flowers, bling, chipboard letters, paint and the paper backing from a pack of Prima flowers that I inked.

My Brother and Me

Having a great time with my Martha Stewart border punches, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Maya Road mini envelopes and Spellbinders' dies. I wanted to create a layout that was feminine, but not to girly because there's a young man in the layout. Ummm, I think I got the right look.

8th Grade Graduation

I'm playing catch-up with my pictures, so as I was reviewing some, I pulled this picture up and printed it and created this layout. The paper is absolutely incredible; the olive colored cardstock is actually metallic and the pattern papers match it so perfectly.

I cut the number and letters using the Base Camp cartridge and the journaling block from the Lacy Labels cartridge. I added some twine to give the layout a masculine touch. I always enjoy scrapping pictures of my son; I've got to keep filling those albums up.

50 Years

My parents just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with about 50 family members and close friends. It was so much fun watching them with friends, sharing the love they've shared with their children and family over the years. We all shared a wonderful meal, lots of fun and fellowship.
Enjoy and TFSB,

1st 6X12 layout

I think I'm going to enjoy making 6x12 layouts; they quick and easy. Best of all, I was able to create this layout using scraps left over from another project. I just whipped out those Martha Stewart border punches, Prima flowers, some Tulle, a little bling of course and presto, a layout completed in 15 minutes.

Just Me

I very seldom do a layout of just me, but here goes. My girlfriend took some pictures of my son and me, while at a gala. I liked the way the pictures turned out, so I decided I scrap the picture of my by myself. I also scrapped the others, but wanted to share this one. I have to tell you that I enjoyed the purple and green color combination because generally, purple is a color that I stay away from; hmmm, don't like it at all. What can I say, I'm branching out.

My Track Star

My son, the track star. Track season has finally come to an end; I have to say that I'm not sad about that, but we won't tell him, okay. He got lots of cheers from me and I got lots of great pictures to scrap. On to the next sport, more pictures, more layouts.
Enjoy,

My Mr. Fix It

Here is my Mr. Fix It; he's working on a communmity service project. He is so at home with a power tool in hand. When I saw this paper in the store, I knew these pictures would be perfect and make for a great layout.

Simple Scrapbooking I

I will be teaching a "Simple Scrapbooking" class each month, over at www.ByDesignScrapbookBoutique.com. Each month, we will do a 2-page simple layout. The first three class dates are February 20th, March 27th and April 17th. If you're in the Clear Lake area, I'd love to have you in the class. Anyhoo, the layouts for the first class are below. I really like green and orange together; makes me think of spring. While we're getting all of this cold wet weather, I needed to feel like spring is on its way; this layout made me feel that way.
Enjoy and TFSB,

Hang 10 JT

I had a good time putting this layout together and not just because it features my favorite scrapbook module; my son. I had a chance to play with my Tim Holtz Distressing Ink pads to color the chipboard leters. I used another of his ink pads to distressed the small flower, after I colored it with Glimmer Mist. I have to tell you, I really like the skateboard in this picture because it's an indoors skateboard, so less chance for us to visit the emergency room; again.
Enjoy and TFSB,
Karen

Adorable

Just adorable. When my sister-in-law sent this picture of my nephew, I couldn't wait to scrap it. The timing was perfect because we've set up a Designer's Fun Box at By Design Scrapbook Boutiqe, and we have been challenged to reach into the box and pull things out, put them together to create layouts and return to them store within a couple of days. Both this layout and the one below it are from that Fun Box, and it's really fun creating the layouts.
Enjoy and TFSB,
Karen

Lil' Kelvin

I love scrapbooking baby pictures, so I'll be showcasing a couple of layouts with pictures of my 7 month old nephew. I haven't met him yet becuase they live in Thailand, but I get lots of pictures. Take a peak below to see the handsome little fellow.
Enjoy and TFSB,

Happy 13th

I printed this picture of me and my son a couple of months ago, it's from his 13th birthday, but never used it. I was trying to decide which picture to scrapbook today and pick it up, again. This time, it was the pecfect picture for the layout I had in mind. I always have so much fun with layouts, but with making card most of the time, the layouts sort of get put on the back burner. Well, I'm in a layout mood, so you all should be seeing many more.

A Busy Bee

There are so many wonderful, new and fun products available; I've been playing with as many of them as I can. Last week I purchased a couple of Smoochs, a few bottles of Tattered Angels, lots of chipboard flowers and ink pads. I've been using them for layouts, cards and altered projects. I'm glad you all can't see my eyes; if you could see them, you'd think I haven't slept in days. To be honest, I haven't. But, who needs sleep, when there are so many fun products out there, waiting to be played with. Here are a few of the things I've been working on. As always TFSB. The pull-out card from the pocket has a birthday sentiment on it. The chipboard flowers and kraft paper envelope were painted with Tattered Angels.

I found this cute tin can at Archiver's and just had to alter it.

Did I mention I also ordered some stamps from Verve Stamps? Love them.

It's never to early to start thinking of Christmas

Fall is here and I made a couple of fun layouts for Sunday Night Layouts at By Design Scrapbook Boutique.

Girls night out with my mother and sister. Don't you just love the Prima flowers?

MyVerve stamps are getting plenty of use.

I was playing with the new Ranger embossing powder.

Gratitude

Gratitude. That word expresses one of the emotions I feel when I see my son and my dad together. They have such a wonderful relationship. I have been trying to scrap this photo of them from Father's Day weekend 2008, for a while, but I just wasn't feeling it, until I saw this transparency that read Gratitude. Because the transparency has a fall theme, I thought I'd build the layout around it. The big flower is a chipboard flower that I misted with Tattered Angels, then painted the edges with one of the new Smooch paints. I also painted the edges of the leaves. Gotta say that I love this new paint.
