ABOUT ME

Houston, Tx, United States
Hi. Welcome to my site; my name is Karen. I'm an avid scrap-booker, card-maker, and paper-crafter. I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years and I am just as excited now as when I first started. Scrapbooking is the instrument I use to record some of the greatest and most special moments of my family’s life. I love buying patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, taking pictures of my son, teaching scrapbooking and hosting workshops. This hobby continues to be an obsession for me and it continues to challenge me to be a better scrapper. I love the escape that scrapbooking affords me and the fun it has brought into my world. I have one child, a son; he's 15 years old and he is my favorite scrapbook subject. I hope that you enjoyed my site and will visit again soon.

Playing Catch Up

I'm playing catch up with my posting. I tried to remember to always take puctures, but don't always get around to posting them timely. It's about 2:00 in the morning, so while I don't have a lot to say about each of the projects, I wanted to take the time to share. I hope you enjoy. Thanks for stopping by, Karen

Bubble Gum Bubble Gum

This week, the inspiration over at The Cutting Cafe came in the way of gumballs and gumball machines from the Gumball Machine Shaped Card digital stamp set. This set was so fun to play with; who doesn't love gumballs? I decided to emboss the gumballs, to add more dimension to the gumball machine and of course a little pink decorative time, bling and a cute flower.
This digital stamp set is definitely a must for your stash, so drop by The Cutting Cafe to order a copy of it.
Enjoy and TFSB

Let's Play Dress Up

Ready to play dress-up? Try this adorable dress shaped card from the Cutting Cafe. I had the pleasure of babysitting my niece and nephew this weekend; my little niece always wears the cutest dresses. Not that those dresses make a difference to her. She's generally crawling under a table in it or writing on it with a crayon. Maybe this will be one she doesn't draw on.

Cup Cakes - The Cutting Cafe

Everybody deserves a special treat every once in a while, so here's a yummy treat for you from The Cutting Cafe. I used the Huge Cupcake stamp set for this card; along with pretty hot pink ribbon and one of my Martha Stewart border punches; don't you love it? I don't know if you can see the score lines at the bottom, but the lines were scored with my Martha Stewart score board. The "Time To Celebrate" sentiment stamp was from my stash. YUMMY, YUMMY!!!

My 1st Cricut Imagine Project

My Cricut Imagine was delivered on Wednesday and I am just playing with it for the first time tonight; I'm lovin it. I've still got a lot to learn, but just the fact that this whole card started out as a white sheet of cardstock is amazing to me. I wanted to stop and post my first Imagine creation, now back to more playing.

Giggle, Giggle, Giggle

I have a wonderful Godchild, who's heading into her Sr. year of high school. She's such a "girly" girl and I enjoy making cards to send to her. So while I should have been asleep, but wasn't, I decided to make her a card at 6:15 in the morning: go figure. Turns out I had a good time and the house was quiet. I'll have to plan for more early morning scrapping.
Enjoy and TFSB,
Karen

Clear Acrylic and paper

You can't see it on this photo, but the top layer of the card is a piece of clear acrylic, attached to the pink floral piece. The bling and flower are actually attached to the piece of acrylic, not the pattern paper. This is the last card for the card class I taught over the weekend at By Design Scrapbook Boutique. I think I'll pick up some more acrylic to play around a little more; really like it.

Joy

Mulberry flowers, Cuttlebug Border, black and white striped paper and bling, putting that all together sounds like a card to me, how about you? I had a great time making this card, didn't have to think about it too long, once I grabbed for the border embossing folder. I created the card around that folder and I like the final product.

Vintage Card

Hi there, I'm back. It's been several weeks since I've posted anything, but I've been making cards and scrapping. I've been on a scrap-a-thon, completing a 20-page album for a customer. I will post some of those pages later, but for now I wanted to post this vintage looking card I created for one of my card classes.

The Joy of Spring

Spring is on it's way and of course, that inspired me to make this card. I absolutely loves these papers from We R Memory Keepers. Of course, I reached for my Nestabilities and flowers. The flower on this card started out white and I painted it with one of the new colors from Glimmer Mist - Tiger Lilly. The flower center was made with a few drops of Dimensional Pearls. I had a good time making this card.

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge - SSSC55

A new challenge for me, the Sweet Sunday Challenge at the Sweet Shop. This week's sketch is really cute and just in time for me to play with my new "Our Daily Bread" stamps and to use some of the bling that I've been buying in quantity, lately. I'm really using my scraps, this card was made from scraps left-over from a 2-page layout. I'm loving it.
Enjoy and TFSB,
Karen

A Busy Bee

There are so many wonderful, new and fun products available; I've been playing with as many of them as I can. Last week I purchased a couple of Smoochs, a few bottles of Tattered Angels, lots of chipboard flowers and ink pads. I've been using them for layouts, cards and altered projects. I'm glad you all can't see my eyes; if you could see them, you'd think I haven't slept in days. To be honest, I haven't. But, who needs sleep, when there are so many fun products out there, waiting to be played with. Here are a few of the things I've been working on. As always TFSB. The pull-out card from the pocket has a birthday sentiment on it. The chipboard flowers and kraft paper envelope were painted with Tattered Angels.

I found this cute tin can at Archiver's and just had to alter it.

Did I mention I also ordered some stamps from Verve Stamps? Love them.

It's never to early to start thinking of Christmas

Fall is here and I made a couple of fun layouts for Sunday Night Layouts at By Design Scrapbook Boutique.

Girls night out with my mother and sister. Don't you just love the Prima flowers?

MyVerve stamps are getting plenty of use.

I was playing with the new Ranger embossing powder.

Cards, Cards, Cards

I haven't posted anything in over a week, not because I haven't been making cards; I've been busy doing just that, and doing layouts to teach at the store and for the monthly kit club. I'm also making cards for a card class I'll be teaching October 24th, at By Design. I'll share some of what I've been working on. Enjoy and as always, TFSB

Serving up slices of Lemon Meringue

We're serving up Lemon Meringue this month at Le Bistro Rose Kit Club. The layouts, card and painted wooden frame are my contributions to the meal. We are given a kit, filled with great papers, cardstock, ribbon and embellishments, and asked to work exclusively from that. We are able to add paints and a few other items. Talk about challenging your creativity, but at the end of the day, I can say that I had a great time. Head on over to the Bistro to see the kit and other great creative dishes: http://www.lebistrorosescrapbookkits.typepad.com/

Same Papers

Sometimes, I can't get enough of certain patterned papers; such was the case with the papers below. I had a few cards to make last week, for different ocassions. I used the papers on the first card and thought, "hmmm, I really like this paper"; so as you can see, I used it each time.
TFSB.

Delicate Flowers

I was in Jo-Ann's and Michaels looking at clear stamps, but you can't tell anyone because it's a secret. I said I wasn't going to buy anymore stamps "this year", because I've got a couple of file cabinets full of them. But I found these great sets of memories, travel and laughter stamps and they were on SALE. So to not just file them away with the others, I rushed home and made some cards. Here's one of them:

Life is Better When It's Fun

When I saw this stamp, I thought to myself, how true. I also starting thinking about a card, something with soft summer colors. Can you tell that I'm hooked on card making: I see a stamp and think about the card possibilities. Hmmmm, might need a 12-step program. While I ponder that, I like the end results and I hope that you do.

Scallops and more scallops

I keep telling myself that I need to make a card, without using a border punch. Well, I failed miserably on this card. It was like my arm had a mind of its own; it kept going to the drawer where I store my border punches. I like the way the card turned out, so I won't be too upset with myself.

Paisley, It is

I don't generally like the western looking patterned paper, but I saw this sheet of paper and it was screaming at me to make a card with it; so, I did. The dark colored cardstock looks black, but it's actually navy blue. Doesn't this make you thing of a picnic table? Hmmm, I getting a little hungry.

A card catch-up day

I was supposed to complete a few cards before I left for vacation, but with trying to get ready for that and an out-of-town family reunion, I didn't get a chance to. Needless to say, I've been burning the midnight oil since I've returned. I am hoping for some scrapping time this weekemd; we'll see.
But anyway, here are the cards I completed this week. I just love this brown and Tiffany blue. I think these are my favorite colors of the summer.
